In old cities like Calcutta , Cuttack or Puri sweeper passages
were built decades ago to clean and clear wastes and debris since the sewage networks weren’t fully functional or wide spread or built. Over the years, these underground and connected sewage networks have been built under various Government of India programmes but our Habits HASN’T. We as responsible citizens continue to throw garbage like kitchen waste, plastics, thermocol packages, disposable cups with full authority. As a result these spaces becomes ideal hotspots for Aedes breeding responsible for Dengue since the Aedes larvae’s prefer a cooler , shaded and moist places. As little as 5 ml of water is more than sufficient to receive larval hatchings. This means that the Solid Waste Management teams from ULB’s need to clear up these places at periodic intervals but the stink, filth and dirt is so significant that they often shudder to venture inside. Now how does one get access to such a narrow place and carry out any kind of corrective action? We devised a simple yet effective Aerial Platform that can reach these places. Pls see video in my next post.
